Leaf Traits of Trees in Tropical Dry Evergreen Forests of Peninsular India

نویسندگان

چکیده

A plant functional trait study was conducted to know the existing relationship between important leaf traits namely, specific area (SLA), dry matter content (LDMC), and life span (LL) in tropical evergreen forest (TDEFs) of Peninsular India. Widely accepted methodologies were employed record traits. The relationships SLA LDMC, LDMC LL, LL measured. Pearson’s coefficient correlation showed a significant negative whereas positive prevailed LL. mean values (SLA, LL) evergreens varied significantly from deciduous species. had closer with than Similarly, LDMC. Species habits dominated sites under study. Evergreen species dominate high evergreen-deciduous ratio 5.34:1. S strategy score trees indicated relatively higher biomass allocation persistent tissues. TDEFs occur low elevation, semiarid environment, but combination oligotrophic habitat, temperature longer season these forests flourishing as unique ecosystem drier environment. found concurrence earlier findings. Trees survive on poor-nutrient habitat SLA, This adds baseline data key database

Distinct Leaf-trait Syndromes of Evergreen and Deciduous Trees in a Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest

In seasonally dry tropical forests, tree species can be deciduous, remaining without leaves throughout the dry season, or evergreen, retaining their leaves throughout the dry season. Deciduous and evergreen trees specialize in habitats that differ in water availability (hillside and riparian forest, respectively) and in their exposure to herbivore attack (seasonal and continuous, respectively)....

DNA Barcode Authentication of Wood Samples of Threatened and Commercial Timber Trees within the Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest of India

BACKGROUND India is rich with biodiversity, which includes a large number of endemic, rare and threatened plant species. Previous studies have used DNA barcoding to inventory species for applications in biodiversity monitoring, conservation impact assessment, monitoring of illegal trading, authentication of traded medicinal plants etc. This is the first tropical dry evergreen forest (TDEF) barc...

Leaf thermotolerance in dry tropical forest tree species: relationships with leaf traits and effects of drought

Understanding how tropical trees will respond to extreme temperatures and drought is essential to predict how future increases in the severity, frequency and duration of extreme climatic events will affect tropical systems. In this study, we investigated leaf thermotolerance by quantifying the temperatures that resulted in a 50 % decrease in photosystem II function (T50) in experimentally grown...

Investigation and Determine of Ecological Characteristics of Sites of some old Broad-leaf and needle-leaf Trees in Zagros forests (Case study: Forests of Ilam Province)

.  Introduction Old trees are important and key elements of forest sites and are of great value in terms of forest management, reforestation, silviculture and ecology. Although old trees constitute a small percentage of forest trees, they account for a large share of forest carbon reserve and play a vital role in carbon storage. Understanding the how geographical and site distribution of thes...
